Aging Brow
Introduction
Gravity is affecting us all the time. As gravity pulls our brow down it causes characteristic signs of aging in the upper third of the face.
Causes
Everyone over time gets aging of their brow. The aging is caused by progressive ptosis (droopiness) of the brow as the brow descends. This can be advanced by significant sun exposure.
As the brow descends patients’ often find themselves retracting their eyebrows more and more. As they retract their eyebrows upwards to compensate for their descending brow they then develop excess creases in their forehead. The combination of the excessive creases and the retracted eyebrows are classic findings of a patient with an aging brow.
Aging brow differs between males and females. Males usually have heavier brow and get more descent of their eyebrows. Some males have their eyebrows start to descend over their eyes.
Aging brow in females usually involves excessive retraction of the eyebrows upwards – with the brow itself not sitting on the orbital rim anymore.
Symptoms
Patients with an aging brow may feel like they are tired all the time. They are constantly retracting their eyebrows upwards – and this causes them to feel tired trying to keep their eyes open constantly.
Patients with an aging brow look older than they are. They look tired all the time and are sometimes referred to as having a “haggard” look.
Treatment
Dr Dan treats an aging brow with a brow lift. A brow lift is a very powerful way of re-supporting the brow and Dr Dan performs this operation through a hairline incision. This allows for the strongest most reproducible and reliable brow lift – with the exact measurements of the lift adjusted to suit the patient’s requirements.
