Browlift
Introduction
A browlift is an operation which rejuvenates the upper third of the face.
Indications
Patients who are excellent candidates for a browlift have the following features:
- Significant brow ptosis (drooping of the eyebrow).
- Excessive wrinkles on their brow.
Procedure
There are several different ways to perform a browlift – each with its own advantage:
- Endoscopic: Minimally invasive procedure – results not very long-lasting or satisfying.
- Direct: Involves an incision directly on the forehead – a very powerful technique, but does leave a potentially visible scar on the forehead. Dr Robinson uses this technique only for patients who are elderly with very excessive wrinkles over their foreheads.
- Trichophytic: Involves an incision in the hairline. This procedure is very exact and powerful whilst leaving a scar that the hair grows through. This is Dr Robinson’s preferred technique for a browlift.
- Bicoronal: Largely historical in nature – this gives an excellent lift but involves moving the hairline back.
Dr Robinson prefers to utilise the trichophytic technique for a browlift. The technique involves Dr Robinson measuring exactly how much lift is required in 4 segments, the lateral (outer aspect) of each eyebrow and the medial (inner aspect) of each eyebrow.
Dr Robinson then makes an incision through the hair in a technique that allows for the hair to regrow through the incision. He then dissects down to the brow and releases the retaining ligaments of the brow. Once the brow is fully released Dr Robinson excises the exact amount of skin which he has marked on the forehead. The brow is then secured to the periosteum – bone of the skull and then closed. The hair regrows through the incision and the scar is minimal after the procedure.
Recovery from a browlift takes approximately one week before going back to work and then following this the sutures self-dissolve over a period of approximately 2 weeks.
For upper facial rejuvenation or in conjunction with a facelift, a trichophytic browlift gives an excellent result to make you look more refreshed and rejuvenated.
Dr Robinson also performs a browlift with rhinoplasty to give an excellent improvement in facial rejuvenation.
